Garang Kuol’s second loan spell away from Newcastle United isn’t quite going to plan.
After arriving from Central Coast Mariners last January, the Aussie talent spent the second half of the 2022/23 season on loan with Scottish club Hearts.
However, his stint in Scotland was a frustrating one. He started just one league game and was an unused substitute in all of their final five games of the Premiership season.
Fast forward a year from that move to Hearts, he’s six months into a season long loan spell with Dutch side FC Volendam; who are second bottom in the Eredivisie and seven points from safety after just three wins all season.
The 19-year-old attacker scored on his second start for the club and looked to be getting regular minutes, but opportunities have dried up over the past few months.
He hasn’t scored since September, his last league start came in November and he’s played just 53 minutes of football since the start of December, being an unused substitute in four of their last six games. For a teenager in desperate need of game time, that’s a real shame for the player and Newcastle.
Kuol showed his pace and eye for goal during his breakthrough season in Australia, scoring goals in the A-League and earning a call-up to the Aussies World Cup squad. However, it feels important that we get his next loan move right when he returns to Tyneside this summer.
