Newcastle officials travel to watch Serie A centre-back and €40m midfielder – Report

According to reports, Newcastle United officials were in Italy over the weekend to watch Atalanta duo Giorgio Scalvini and Ederson.

This comes from Graeme Bailey at HITC, who claims that scouts from Newcastle United and Manchester United were in the stands to watch both last weekend, where Atalanta beat Lazio 3-1 on Sunday evening.

Reports in Italy suggest we made contact with the Serie A side over a January move for Ederson, but the Brazilian remained in Bergamo. This isn’t the first time we’ve watched the €40m midfielder, who appears to be high on our radar heading into a huge summer for the club.

As for Scalvini, the young Italian is one of the most highly-rated right-sided centre-backs in Europe. With the club looking to recruit a younger option able to learn from and compete with Fabian Schar, it would make total sense if we’re tracking the ball-playing 20-year-old.

Another one to watch this summer in our search for a centre-back, with Sporting Lisbon’s Ousmane Diomande another young defender who has been linked with in recent months.
