SBI USMNT Man of the Match: Timothy Tillman

11 players made their senior U.S. men’s national team debuts on Saturday against Slovenia and Timothy Tillman shone brightest out of all of them.

Tillman played 89 minutes in the USMNT’s 1-0 home loss to Slovenia, earning SBI Man of the Match honors for his individual performance. The LAFC midfielder was positive in possession, while also excelling on the defensive side of the field as well.

Despite the Americans chasing the match from the 26th minute onward, Tillman’s performance didn’t dip. The 25-year-old completed 97% of his passes (67/69), created one shot on target, and drew a match-high three fouls.

Tillman was the Americans leading creative option until Esmir Bajraktarevic entered the match for the final 29 minutes. Bajraktarevic came close to not only finding the back of the net himself, but also setting up John Tolkin on back-to-back occasions.

After committing his future to the USMNT last summer, Tillman’s long wait to represent the United States came to an end on Saturday. Now he will be eager to remain in Gregg Berhalter’s plans with CONCACAF Nations League and Copa America involvement to come later this year.

Tillman edged out Bajraktarevic, Aidan Morris, and Miles Robinson for Man of the Match honors.

What did you think of Tillman’s debut? Do you see if being part of the USMNT plans later this year?
