Barcelona vice president vows to win Spanish Super Cup: “We will give our best”

Barcelona’s vice president Rafael Yuste has vouched to defend the Spanish Super Cup this season, saying that the Blaugrana will perform at their best level to bring home the trophy.

Ever since the competition moved to a four-team format, Barcelona have won the Spanish Super Cup just once, which was last season when they beat Real Madrid 3-1 in the final at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

On that occasion, Gavi opened the scoring minutes after the half-hour mark, and goals from Robert Lewandowski and Pedri soon followed.

Real Madrid pulled one back through Karim Benzema, but the Frenchman’s injury-time goal proved to be the only consolation for Los Blancos.

Sensations are good

Being the defending champions, Barcelona are rightly expected to fight for the title and Yuste believes that the team is in great shape and that in order to beat Osasuna, the players will have to be at their best level.

“The sensations are good, we must play at our best level to beat Osasuna and from here we are looking at reaching the final,” said Yuste, as quoted by SPORT.

“We are going to fight for a new title and if we are not optimistic, we are going badly. We are Barcelona and we will give our best in the Super Cup. We will try to bring the title home,” added Yuste.

Despite public criticism of the recent performances, Barcelona have won each of their two games this year. They started with a narrow 2-1 win over Las Palmas in La Liga and quite recently, they beat Barbastro 3-2 to qualify for the next round of Copa del Rey.

A win against Osasuna in the semi-final would see Barcelona face one of Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid in the Super Cup finals.
