Timothy Weah scores first Juventus goal in Coppa Italia romp

Timothy Weah’s first Juventus goal came in style on Thursday night as the Old Lady breezed their way into the Coppa Italia quarterfinals.

Weah came off the bench and capped off a 6-1 romp over Salernitana by scoring the final goal of the match. It marked Weah’s first competitive goal for the Serie A giants since arriving last summer from Lille.

Despite conceding a first-minute opening goal, Juventus roared back and eventually found its footing. Fabio Miretti and Andrea Cambiaso flipped the scoreline in Juventus’ favor before halftime, making it 2-1 at the interval.

Daniele Rugani, Kenan Yildiz and an own goal from Dylan Bronn extended the Old Lady’s lead to 5-1 before Weah scored the final goal of the night. Weah picked up possession before unleashing a powerful right-footed shot which deflected into the back of the net off the crossbar.

It was a positive ending to a 24-minute cameo for Weah as Juventus booked its quarterfinal showdown with Frosinone. Fellow U.S. men’s national team teammate Weston McKennie did not feature off the bench, but should be well rested heading into Sunday’s Serie A trip to Salernitana.

The two Serie A sides will meet again on Sunday with Juventus aiming to extend its 14-match unbeaten run.
