Barcelona midfield target’s release clause is less than €20 million, but deal complicated

With just a few days left for the January transfer window to open, Barcelona find themselves scouring the market for a new central midfielder.

Having welcomed Vitor Roque into the squad, the Blaugrana also wish to sign a midfielder, having lost Gavi to an injury for the remainder of the season.

And, recent reports suggest that Girona ace Aleix Garcia has emerged as the preferred target for Barça for January.

No negotiations so far, but deal ‘practically impossible’

It has been reported that Garcia, who has already admitted his love for Barcelona, has a release clause worth €20 million in his contract with Girona.

But, according to a fresh update from Mundo Deportivo, that is not the case, with the 26-year-old’s exit clause standing at less than €20 million.

While it might make him a feasible option, several sources consulted by MD deny that any negotiations are underway for his signing.

Barcelona admit that the Girona captain is liked within the club and would fit the profile they are looking for, but they are yet to set a target and have other names under consideration as well.

Furthermore, at the moment, the way the Barça’s coffers are at the moment, it would be practically impossible to sign a second signing in addition to Vitor Roque.

Girona relaxed

Meanwhile, amidst all the speculations, Girona are calm about their captain’s situation. They are not aware of any interest from Barça for Aleix Garcia and are referring to the termination clause.

As mentioned earlier, the release clause figure would be considerably lower than the €20 million previously mentioned. Despite this, Barcelona consider the operation to be very complicated.

Unless there is an injection of cash that creates FFP margin, a second signing after Roque looks difficult.
