Newcastle United are showing interest in Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke and Bologna star Joshua Zirkzee as the club plan to add another striker to their ranks in 2024.
We were informed earlier this month that a loan deal for Man City’s Kalvin Phillips is edging closer, with the midfielder a top priority ahead of the January window. However, a striker is wanted to eventually replace an ageing Callum Wilson.
Another centre forward is likely to arrive next summer – January is a tough time to do business and premium prices are likely at a time we’re battling FFP issues after exiting Europe – but both Solanke and Zirkzee have been ‘watched extensively’ by scouts this season.
Eddie Howe managed Solanke during his time at Bournemouth and often spoke highly of the 25-year-old, who is coming into his prime after netting an outstanding 12 goals in 18 Premier League games so far.
Spurs are also admirers of the former Chelsea talent, with more and more interest likely to arrive after five goals in his last three games for an in-form Cherries side who’ve won six of their last seven games.
As for Zirkzee, the 22-year-old Dutchman has caught the eye for Bologna after sealing a £7.5m move from Bayern Munich over the summer. A release clause in the region of £35m exists in his current deal, too.
He’s bagged eight goals and four assists this term and has a very similar profile to Alexander Isak, being a 6ft 4′ forward with quick feet for a player of his height and impressive ball carrying skills.
Brighton’s Evan Ferguson is another player Newcastle’s recruitment team like, which is no surprise when Dan Ashworth pushed for his move to the Amex in 2021. That said, the 19-year-old Irishman signed a new deal with the Seagulls last month and is expected to command a whopping fee that may see us look elsewhere.
