Barcelona to send a scout to Brazil to monitor talents at the Copinha Tournament

The ‘Copinha’ Tournament also known as the Sao Paulo Junior Cup, is one of the most exciting competitions when it comes to the youth football scenes in Brazil.

It is a competition where several young talents make a mark, and naturally many top clubs from across Europe have scouts present for the event to keep an eye out for the youth prospects impressing.

Barcelona to have scouts present at Copinha

Now, Joaquim Piera of SPORT is reporting that the Barcelona technical secretariat has decided to send one of its scouts to the Copinha Tournament.

The U-20 tournament, now in its 54th edition, kicks off on 2 January and, as always, has its final on the 25th of the same month, when the city of Sao Paulo celebrates the anniversary of its founding.

All Brazilian players who aspire to go to Europe pass through the competition, where they are closely watched by hundreds of scouts.

Barcelona, for example, highlighted the name of Vitor Roque in the 2022 edition, when he was still playing for Cruzeiro. Real Madrid set sights on Palmeiras’ Endrick in the same year.

Barça’s decision to have scouts at the ‘Copinha’ is, this time, newsworthy, considering the cutbacks that the club has been applying since the start of the season to reduce expenditure on travel within the scouting department.

After all, Barcelona did not have any of its scouts at the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which was held in Indonesia recently.

It will be interesting to see if any young jewels from Brazil manage to catch the Blaugrana scouts’ attentions at the Copinha come next year.
