AC Milan make inquiry about Barcelona loanee over January move, club cannot sanction move – Romano

Transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has affirmed that Serie A side AC Milan have asked Barcelona about the availability of their on-loan defender Clement Lenglet for the January transfer window.

A few days ago, we reported that Bayern Munich are contemplating the idea of incorporating Lenglet in January and since the Frenchman is not getting any playtime in the Premier League, a move could be on the cards.

And now, Milan have apparently joined the fray, leaving Barcelona with not one, but two suitors for a player who does not have any place in Xavi’s blueprint.

Barcelona aware of interest, but hands tied

Reports from within the Barcelona club confirm that they are aware of the Italians’ interest. As such, Stefano Pioli’s squad is in need of a left-footed defender, and Lenglet is contemplating a departure due to his lack of consistent playing time and prominence with the English club.

So far this season, he has clocked over 450 minutes in the UEFA Conference League but is yet to play in the Premier League.

As for Milan, they are currently dealing with injuries to centre-backs Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu, with their recovery expected to extend until February and March.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are ready to get Lenglet off their ranks but before deciding on anything, they must speak to Aston Villa since he is contractually bound until 2024 and this is going to pose a considerable challenge for the Blaugrana.

Opportunity like no other

The French defender has a decent demand in the market, recognized by Barça as a potential boon in the winter transfer market as his exit would provide the club with much-needed financial relief.

Subsequently, recent speculations suggest that Bayern Munich are contemplating his recruitment as well, alongside Ronald Araujo, given their interest in bolstering their defensive options amid Matthijs de Ligt’s prolonged recovery…
