Barcelona will try to sign a midfielder in January, two ways being explored by club

In light of the recent performances from the team, FC Barcelona have now decided to make an attempt to sign a new midfielder during the January transfer window, reports SPORT.

The back-to-back defeats to Girona and Royal Antwerp have set the alarm bells ringing at Can Barça, with the sporting department now working to find ways to turn things around.

And one of the options being considered is the incorporation of another new player, preferably a midfielder that Xavi has been asking for, in January, along with the registration of Vitor Roque.

Barça Studios deal the key

Barcelona are working round the clock to increase their salary cap in case it is necessary to make an effort in the winter market. And, as per the report, the first big option to generate Fair Play limit is to sign an agreement for the sale of Barça Studios.

Today is the deadline for the Líbero to complete the payment of €40 million for the Barça Studios deal that was signed in the summer, but given the delays, that option is fully ruled out.

Instead, next week there is an important summit with an Arab and a Mexican investment fund to try to reach a definitive agreement for the total sale of 49 percent of Barça Studios.

If the deal is finalised, it would mean an influx of €30 million which would significantly boost the Blaugrana’s chances of having a higher salary cap.

Should this be the case, Barcelona will make use of the salary cap generated to register Vitor Roque. And the club would then be able to invest 80% of Gavi’s salary in the arrival of a new player.

Exit not ruled out

Another possibility being entertained by the reigning La Liga champions is accepting any potential offers for a specific player as long as it is a highly beneficial operation for the club.
