Barcelona manager Xavi receives support from potential successor: “Future is in safe hands”

The pressure has been mounting on Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez in light of some questionable performances and results over the past month.

The 2-4 defeat to Girona this past Sunday served to turn the heat up a notch, with reports suggesting that the dressing room is starting to fall apart.

While Barça president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco have publicly backed Xavi, there is growing concern among some members of the club administration.

Rafa Marquez backs Xavi

Amidst this, Barça Atletic manager Rafa Marquez has come out and provided his support to Xavi, backing the first-team head coach to turn things around.

It must be noted that recent reports have suggested that Marquez, a former Barcelona defender, is reported to be one of the potential candidates to potentially succeed Xavi when he moves on, with Laporta understood to be a big admirer of the Mexican.

“Xavi is more than capable of doing the job and turning the situation around,” Marquez said, as quoted by SPORT.

“The future of Barça is in good hands,” the former Mexican international added.

When asked about his own aspirations of coaching the Barcelona first team, Marquez said: “Before coaching the first team one day, I have to work hard.”

Xavi signed a new contract with Barcelona earlier this year, committing his future until the summer of 2025.

Despite what is being speculated, the Barça head coach is expected to retain his job and any decision on his future will likely be reserved until the end of the season.
