Celtic’s domestic dominance in the Scottish Premiership continued Wednesday night with a 4-1 thumping of Hibernian in Glasgow, and although American defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was substituted off at halftime, manager Brendan Rodgers eased any worries over a potential injury.
Carter-Vickers registered one assist in his 45 minutes at Celtic Park before being replaced by Nat Phillips for the second half. The 25-year-old returned from a two-month layoff in early-October and since has racked up 16 combined appearances for club and country.
Rodgers replaced Carter-Vickers due to a tight hamstring, but doesn’t expect him to miss any time going forward for the SPFL leaders.
“Cam just felt his hamstring so we did not want to take any risks,” Rodgers told Celtic TV postmatch. “He has not pulled it but he just felt it a bit tight.
“It is probably due to the accumulation of games and it [centre-back] is the one position we have not changed around too much because the continuity is very important,” he added. “We just took him off as a precaution.”
Carter-Vickers has looked back to his old self with Celtic this season, playing each week across multiple competitions. The U.S. men’s national team defender is nearing 100 appearances for the club after earning SPFL Best XI honors last season during a domestic treble-winning campaign.
Celtic will hope to have Carter-Vickers back for a busy December schedule which features a trio of home matches ahead of an Old Firm showdown with Rangers on Dec. 30. The reigning champions are eight points clear of Rangers in the fight for this season’s title and have yet to suffer a defeat in league action.
