Barcelona unwilling to shell out even €50 million to sign 24-year-old Portuguese forward

Following a rocky exit from Atletico Madrid this past summer, Joao Felix could not have hoped for a better outcome facing off against his parent club when playing for Barcelona this past weekend.

The Portuguese was booed by Atleti fans before his departure, and channeling his feelings into a masterful performance, Felix turned out to be the difference for the Catalans against Atletico Madrid.

Having scored the only goal of the game after chipping Jan Oblak, he celebrated euphorically on the advertisement boards, which did not sit well with the Atletico players.

The player’s wish has always been to continue at Barcelona beyond the ongoing campaign, and his celebrations against the Rojiblancos indicated he has no wish to return.

In fact, he even publicly affirmed his desire to become a permanent member of the Blaugrana squad, stating: “I’m very happy here. I hope Barça makes an effort to sign me this summer.”

The feeling is mutual

Now, according to SPORT, Barcelona shares the same sentiments and does not want to part ways after the expiration of the Portuguese’s loan spell.

The report argues that superagent Jorge Mendes will help facilitate a permanent transfer, as he maintains strong ties with Barça president Joan Laporta.

However, the La Liga champions have kept a limit on the sum they will pay and will not dish out any amount for Felix.

Barcelona will not spend big

Indeed, as per the report, Barcelona will not pay €70 million, €60 million, or even €50 million to Atletico Madrid to sign Felix permanently.

Given their financial constraints, it is no surprise to see the Blaugrana stay within certain boundaries in their bid to sign the 24-year-old forward permanently.

With reports that Barcelona aim to spend big on a pivot midfielder this summer, they will find it difficult to go in the aforementioned range, more so considering that they also plan on making Joao…
