Early team news: 11 out for Newcastle & 7 missing for Man Utd ahead of 8pm kick-off

Both Newcastle United and Manchester United have injury issues heading into tonight’s 8pm kick-off at St James’ Park, with a total of 18 players expected to miss out.

In his press conference yesterday, Howe seemed hopeful that Sean Longstaff (ankle) and Joe Willock (Achilles) won’t be long-term issues, but they’ll miss out again along with Sven Botman – who is back on the grass – and Harvey Barnes, who is yet to train.

Callum Wilson, Elliot Anderson, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Javier Manquillo and Sandro Tonali remain out, but Matt Ritchie and Emil Krafth could return to the squad after being ineligible for the Champions League on Tuesday.

For Man Utd, Luke Shaw is fit again and has started their last two, but they’ll be without Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Mason Mount, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, Jadon Sancho and Amad Diallo.

As a result, I think we can expect the same Newcastle XI that started our last two games against Chelsea and PSG, meaning another start for Lewis Miley. Lewis Hall is fresh and could be considered, but it’s hard to know where he fits in right now.
