Jan Oblak talks Barcelona, Felix ahead of clash; claims La Liga ‘more equal’ after Messi, Ronaldo departure

Barcelona are set to take on Atletico Madrid, in what could be a must-win game for the Catalans as they look to keep up with Real Madrid and Girona in the title race.

Heading into this game, Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak talked about Barcelona and the competition.

Oblak on La Liga post Messi & Ronaldo

Oblak was asked whether or not La Liga has become easier following the exit of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

In response, the Atleti goalkeeper said La Liga has become equally competitive following the exit of these two footballing superstars.

“The league is now more equal than before, all the teams are very good and every match is very difficult. La Liga is very competitive, before with Cristiano and Messi there was a lot of talk about them, but now the league is not easier than before and is still competitive and has great players,” Oblak said (h/t Estadio Deportivo).

The goalkeeper went on to talk about Barcelona and how they were at their prime during 2015-16, especially when Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar were in their full flow.

“The best matches against Barcelona were in 2015 with Messi, Suarez and Neymar. Barcelona has changed a lot over the years,” he said.

Barcelona played the most beautiful football perhaps in 2015 and 2016. In the first three years of my arrival Barcelona was very strong,” the goalkeeper said.

Oblak on Joao Felix

The upcoming game promises to be a crucial one for Joao Felix, who will face his former side for the first time after joining Barcelona on a loan deal in the summer.

Talking about his former teammate, Oblak said, “I know Joao and he knows me. He is a high-quality player who can do anything at any moment. Every match is different from the other and nothing will change if we know each other.

Felix will indeed play a key role for Barcelona as they look to continue their winning momentum following a midweek…
