There has been much speculation about the future of Kylian Mbappe, whose contract with Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of the season.
The France captain was strongly linked with Real Madrid throughout the summer, but the Spanish giants reportedly didn’t want to meet PSG’s financial demands and decided to wait for the chance to get the transfer done without compensation in 2024. Since then, there have been claims that Real have given up, opening the door for other potential suitors to swoop in.
With Real seemingly out of the picture, Liverpool are one of clubs mentioned. According to Team Talk, the Reds would simply love to sign Mbappe, but they would have to sell their current main attacker, Mohamed Salah, to be able to afford it. On the other hand, Jaque Talbot of Football Transfers claims Mbappe remains fully focused on PSG, and that has been no indication whatsoever about Liverpool being interested at all.
In all fairness, Talbot’s story seems far the likelier. Mbappe is certainly a world-class player, one of the best there is, but it’s hard to imagine Liverpool agreeing to pay the wages and sign-on fees which someone like Mbappe would surely demand. Quite apart from that, for all their well-known admiration for each other, it would also be hard to imagine Jurgen Klopp working with a player who has already shown signs of contempt towards coaches for not running things the way he’d have wanted them to.
