Barcelona have some doubts about €25 million-rated midfield target, not considered a priority

Having lost Sergio Busquets last summer, Barcelona brought in Oriol Romeu to fill in the hole left by the club legend.

But the veteran Spaniard is not a long-term solution and has seen his form decline already this season. Furthermore, the pivot midfield position is the only one in the squad without two natural options, which Barcelona wish to address next summer.

Barcelona have doubts about Vermeeren

But, according to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are not entirely convinced by Vermeeren and have some doubts about the youngster.

The midfielder has been on Barça’s agenda since the beginning of 2023 and is considered by the club as a young player with a lot of promise and talent, and one who is constantly developing and improving.

However, the Blaugrana have some doubts about Vermeeren and as such, even though they feel he is a good option, he is not the main objective and priority.

Apart from Barcelona, Vermeeren, whose market value stands at €25 million, is also attracting interest from clubs such as Arsenal. Given that he is not a priority, Barça might let him slip away and focus on other targets.

Who are Barcelona’s main targets?

With Vermeeren not seen as a main candidate, Barcelona have other names ahead of the Belgian prospect on their transfer wishlist.

Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad is understood to be the preferred candidate for manager Xavi Hernandez. At the same time, Barcelona have not lost track of Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich, who will be entering the final year of his contract in 2024.
