NUFC star nails it after PSG robbery & makes bold Lewis Miley prediction

Kieran Trippier has called for referees to come out and discuss their decisions after games, asking why it’s always the players and managers who must take questions from the media.

The VAR official who asked last night’s referee to review Tino Livramento’s ‘handball’ has been taken off duty for tonight’s Champions League clash between Real Sociedad and RB Salzburg, but we’ve heard nothing after the match from him or Szymon Marciniak; the man who pointed to the spot.

Speaking to journalists in the mixed zone, Trippier also handed some huge praise to Lewis Miley, claiming he is ‘the future of Newcastle’ and a player with the ability to go ‘all the way to the top’ in football.

The right-back hailed Miley’s calmness on the ball, believing he looks like someone who has ‘played 500 games’ – despite being a 17-year-old lad who was making his third ever start at senior level. Here’s what Tripps had to say during an impressive post-match interview:

Trippier on officials dodging questions:

“I don’t understand. We tried to ask him (the referee), even after the game (why the penalty was given). It’s one of those where I’m standing here, discussing the decisions but why can’t officials?

“Why can’t the referee come out and explain why he gave that penalty, for example, just to give all the supporters, the media, yourselves a more clear indication of why he gave the penalty?

“Players get stuck here and answer questions, but why can’t officials? It doesn’t get spoken about enough.”

Trippier on Lewis Miley: 

“Again, quality. 17-years-old…yeh, he can all the way to the top. To step in at a place like this, against this opposition…he wasn’t out of place.

“He showed he’s calm on the ball and he’s honestly an unbelievable player. He’s got a bright future ahead of him and the good thing about him is it feels like he’s played 500 games already.
