Barcelona president aims dig at Real Madrid over denied penalty vs Rayo: “If it happened with them, it’d be talked about all week”

Speaking at the presentation ceremony of the 125th-anniversary commissioner, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has fired a dig at arch-rivals Real Madrid.

The Barça president was referring to the team being denied two clear penalties during last weekend’s La Liga clash against Rayo Vallecano and stated that if that had happened with Madrid, the media would not stop talking about it.

Barcelona were held to a 1-1 draw by Rayo on Saturday, although they could have won if the referee had given the penalties for fouls on Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.

And, Laporta made his feelings on the matter very clear, as he said (h/t SPORT): “It’s not easy to be Barça. We have to fight against a lot of things.

“This very week there has only been talk of bollocks when we should have been talking about Raphinha’s penalty and the one that was taken away from Lewandowski – on the Rayo’s pitch. If this had happened to Madrid, it would be talked about all week.”

Laporta on the Porto win

Laporta also went on to discuss Barcelona’s 2-1 win over FC Porto last night, stating that there were many who wanted them to lose but the team prevailed.

“Many were waiting for us to lose against Porto,” he said.

“To win we have to be much better than our opponents and they make things difficult for us. Now we have won against Porto and we have an iron morale to beat Atlético and Girona,” Laporta added.

Hailing the importance of the win, he said: “It was an important victory because we have now qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League. I was happy for the Culers and for Xavi, because he deserves it. Xavi has had a difficult time and he has overcome it.

The Barça supremo also went on to highlight some individual performances from the night, saying:

“Cancelo played a great game like Joao Felix. Pedri ran 13 km and covered for Gavi, and with Frenkie we are now going to have the ball. We are unbeatable,” he signed off.
