Barcelona loanee Ansu Fati out injured for a ‘long time’, confirms De Zerbi

Not long ago, Ansu Fati was the darling of Spanish football, with many even labelling him as the long-term successor to Lionel Messi at Barcelona.

Fast forward to the present day, the Spaniard is experiencing a very different reality. Not regarded as one of the prime members of the squad, he was loaned out to Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer, with the hope of regular game-time.

Now, in yet another devastating blow, Fati picked up an injury this past weekend when he had to be subbed off against Nottingham Forest.

Brighton coach confirms Fati’s long-term injury

A few days after Fati’s injury, Brighton’s head coach Roberto De Zerbi has now confirmed that the Barcelona loanee will be sidelined for the long term.

It appears the Spaniard has picked up a serious injury, which will keep him away from action for a substantial period of time.

“We’ve lost them for a long time,” said De Zerbi (h/t Jack Rosser), who was also speaking about the injury to Tariq Lamptey, another young gun at Brighton.

Fati’s season so far at Brighton

After joining Brighton on a loan deal in the summer, Fati has endured a mixed time at Brighton & Hove Albion so far.

The forward has scored four goals in 14 competitive matches for the Seagulls, but he has struggled to establish himself as a first-team regular in the Premier League.

Fati, though, was a regular in Europa League matches, notably racking up two goals and an assist. He was instrumental in Brighton’s recent 2-0 win over Ajax.

But it appears the Barcelona loanee is set for another long period on the sidelines, which will further curtail his growth.
