Eddie Howe has urged his players to “play on the edge”, “give everything” and execute our game plan ahead of tonight’s mammoth Champions League meeting with PSG.
The boss accepts it’s “imperative we don’t lose”, calling this a “defining moment”, but insists we must “concentrate on what we can control” as others work out the permutations of a win, draw or defeat at the Parc des Princes.
Howe challenged the team to be at our best defensively, believing we’ll “need every ounce of motivation and energy” to get the result we need against a PSG side who’ve “scored goals for fun” since our 4-1 win at St James’ Park.
Here’s what he’s had to say ahead of the 8pm kick-off in Paris:
“The mood of the group is very good, especially after the result at the weekend. We need to play on the edge; I think that is when we are at our best.
“We’re going to need every ounce of motivation and energy to get a result here. This is a defining moment in our UEFA Champions League campaign, we are well aware of where we sit in the group and what can happen, so we are going to give it everything.
“They have quality in every position and since we played them they’ve scored goals for fun. We’ll do our best defensively and will need to be every ounce as good as we can be.
“We are prepared to try and win this game and will worry about Milan afterwards. It is imperative we don’t lose. We will concentrate on what we can control and not what we can’t.
“I don’t think the motivation could be any bigger for us. We want to be in [the Champions League] as long as we can be and that makes this a huge moment in our season. We have a plan and we will try to execute it and be ready for the game.”
