Howe issues injury update from Paris – 16 out as Newcastle star fails to travel for PSG clash

Eddie Howe has issued an update on the injury front ahead of tomorrow night’s crucial Champions League clash with PSG.

Speaking to the press from Paris, the boss has revealed that it’s “pretty much as we were” on the fitness front, revealing that Sean Longstaff hasn’t travelled due to an ongoing ankle issue.

Joe Willock is due to see a specialist tomorrow after aggravating an Achilles problem that kept him out earlier this season and it seems no one else from our long injury list is expected to return for Tuesday’s 8pm kick-off.

This means the likes of Sven Botman, Callum Wilson, Elliot Anderson, Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Sandro Tonali remain out, while Matt Ritchie, Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo and Mark Gillespie aren’t eligible after missing out on our initial Champions League squad.

That will be the case for some of our U21 players too, with Howe admitting there’s a “few youngsters” – believed to be Alex Murphy and Amadou Diallo – who “can’t be registered in UEFA games.”

Here’s what he’s had to say when asked for an update just moments ago:

“Not too much change. Pretty much as we were with a few absentees. Plus a few youngsters who can’t be registered in UEFA games.

“Still unsure (on Joe Willock). He’s seeing a specialist tomorrow.”
