Barcelona really ‘admire’ La Liga coach; Pedri, Laporta fans of his style – report

While it’s a fact that Xavi’s immediate future at FC Barcelona is not in danger, a report from SPORT has emerged that Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil happens to have several admirers at the club, including club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco and even Pedri.

This week at the Marca Awards, Imanol was adjudged with the Best Coach honour and the ceremony brought him into the company of Laporta, Deco, Pedri, and the entire Barcelona representation. 

Interestingly enough, the fondness for the Real Sociedad coach was openly expressed by the Barcelona delegates. The report adds that Laporta extended his congratulations and made him known that he admires the brand of football Imanol’s team plays. 

Deco, too, showed keen interest in him, while Pedri acknowledged that they really like his coaching style.

At the moment, no! But as it is in football, everything is possible. We have reported before that Xavi is well and truly safe at least until the end of the season but the results that will follow will decide the course of his tenure.

Imanol’s current contract with Real Sociedad ends in 2025 and while he is very much at home, no door is definitively closed.

It is to be noted that he is the second longest-serving manager in La Liga after Diego Simeone, which explains why he is such a reputated manager in the league.

Having dedicated six seasons to Real Sociedad, Imanol’s reputation precedes him. Those familiar with his coaching prowess believe that given the opportunity to lead a youth team like Barcelona, he could excel, as he did with the Sociedad youth team.

Right now, Barcelona are not linked with Imanol but in due course, his name will come up strongly in connection with the managerial position if Xavi’s tenure hits a bump. For now, only time will reveal the next chapter in Imanol’s coaching journey.
