Speaking on talkSPORT, Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Newcastle to make January moves for Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips and Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale.
He believes Phillips ‘makes sense’ for all parties, despite the fact we are now able to sign Ruben Neves on loan from Al-Hilal. The 27-year-old is expected to leave the Etihad in search of game time, with Eddie Howe keen to bring in another midfielder in Sandro Tonali’s absence.
The Ramsdale suggestion is much more left-field, yet Agbonlahor thinks it won’t be long until we pursue a goalkeeper who can play out from the back, feeling Pope is a ‘top shot-stopper’ but ‘can’t play with his feet.’
The former Aston Villa striker fears Pope’s inability to play out from the back will cost him a place at next summer’s Euros and thinks Newcastle may turn to Ramsdale; who has not only lost his place at Arsenal but was signed by Howe during his time at Bournemouth.
