Former commssioner Villarejo retracts accusations against Barcelona president Laporta in Rosell imprisonment

Former commissioner Jose Manuel Villarejo had made a shocking revelation earlier this year, claiming that Joan Laporta’s involvement in the imprisonment of former president Sandro Rosell.

In an interview with RAC1, Villarejo had divulged information about the arrest of Rosell, suggesting that it was Laporta who provided him and his organisation with the information.

Shortly after Villarejo’s statement, Laporta denied the accusations, branding them as falsified lies. The Barcelona president even went to take legal action against Villarejo over these allegations.

Villarejo retracts his statement

Following the legal action, a conciliation hearing was held in Madrid’s peace court between Villarejo and Barcelona.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, neither of the parties was able to reach a peace agreement. But Villarejo did retract his statement about Laporta’s involvement in Rosell’s imprisonment.

It must be noted that Barcelona, under the threat of a lawsuit, had demanded Villarejo to retract his statement on September 28.

Now, as per the report, the retired commissioner has taken back his statement.

“It is therefore strictly false that I said that Mr. Laporta provided information or documentation to police or judicial authorities about Mr Rosell, in the framework and context of the investigation that he underwent,” Villarejo said in his statement.

This is a major victory for Barcelona president Joan Laporta, although this tiff between the president and the former police commissioner does not do any favour to Barça’s prestige, which has been hurt badly this calendar year.
