Last night brought with it a devastating piece of news for Barcelona as key midfielder Gavi suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Spain against Georgia.
Following tests conducted today, the Blaugrana confirmed that Gavi has ruptured his ACL in the right knee and will soon be undergoing surgery.
Given the nature and severity of the injury, the 19-year-old’s season is over and he is unlikely to play until the pre-season before the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
Gavi sends a message
Ever since the injury, there has been an outpour of messages and well-wishes for Gavi, with teammates, current and former, club legends, and even rivals wishing him a speedy recovery.
And the 19-year-old midfield prodigy has spoken out for the first time since his injury, as he took to social media to thank everyone for their support amidst this ordeal.
“Thank you all for your messages, it is certainly a difficult time for me and the club. I will be back soon. I love you all,” wrote Gavi on X, with an image of him kissing the Barcelona badge.
Gracias a todos por vuestros mensajes, sin duda ahora es un momento difícil para mí y para el club. Volveré pronto. Os quiero a todos. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/7vAO1Suq0B

Gavi has played in all but two matches for Barcelona this season, missing those two only because he was suspended.
As for the Spanish national team, he has played in 27 consecutive games for La Roja since making his debut.
So, it goes without saying that his long-term absence will be devastating for both club and country as Gavi will miss the rest of Barcelona’s season and be unavailable for Spain for the Euros in the summer.
