Barcelona key star will undergo tests tomorrow after injury scare – report

On Friday, FC Barcelona were dealt an injury scare as Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann confirmed that goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen was dealing with a back problem due to which he was ruled out of their upcoming two games.

“Marc-Andre ter Stegen will miss both games due to acute back pain. He will probably be travelling back to Barcelona tomorrow morning. The thing is, he won’t be able to play or train,” Nagelsmann said

Ter Stegen has been one of Barça’s best players since last season and any potential injury would come as a devastating blow for the La Liga champions.

Tests tomorrow

Ter Stegen is expected to return to Barcelona from the Germany camp soon and Gerard Romero is now reporting that the 31-year-old star will undergo tests tomorrow to determine whether there is any injury and the extent of it.

The journalist went on to add that Barça believe that the issue with their first-choice goalkeeper is not very serious, but tests will confirm the exact situation.

Ter Stegen was one of the cornerstones of Barcelona’s La Liga title triumph last season as he went on to break many records and finished the campaign with the Zamora Trophy.

Even though the Blaugrana’s defence has been a bit shaky this season, the goalkeeper has once again delivered some important performances. In 17 games, he has kept eight clean sheets, conceding 15 goals.

The issue is not believed to be very serious, which would suggest that Ter Stegen could be ready for the game against Rayo Vallecano after the international break.

If Barça decide not to take any risks with their second captain, backup shot-stopper Inaki Pena is prepared to step up and shoulder the responsibility.
