Liverpool forward ‘dreams’ of playing for Barcelona, reveals father: “He is a fan”

Speaking to Win Sports TV (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Luis Manuel Diaz, the father of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz, has revealed that his son is a big fan of FC Barcelona and dreams of playing for them.

The whole footballing world was shocked when it emerged that Diaz’s parents were kidnapped in Colombia earlier this month.

While his mother was released soon, the Liverpool forward’s father was held in captivity for more than ten days before authorities were able to secure his safety.

Having been released, Luis Manuel Diaz was able to watch his son score a brace for Colombia against Brazil last night in a World Cup qualifying encounter in Barranquilla.

In the aftermath, he gave an interview, wherein he revealed that Diaz has always dreamt of playing for Barcelona and is a supporter of the La Liga champions.

“So far he (Luis) has not said anything to me about Barcelona, but it is true that Luis is a fan of Barcelona and it would be a dream of his to go there,” Luis Diaz’s father said.

Barcelona were interested in Diaz in the past

It must be remembered that Barcelona held an interest in signing Luis Diaz not very long ago.

Indeed, during the January transfer window of 2022, the Blaugrana seriously considered the possibility of signing the Colombian while he was still at FC Porto.

However, in the end, Diaz ended up signing for Liverpool in a deal worth €47 million whereas Barça brought in Ferran Torres from Manchester City for €55 million.

There had been rumours of interest in the Colombian winger earlier this year as well, although nothing came of it again.
