The Athletic have revealed that Anthony Gordon is ‘not interested’ in switching international allegiances to Scotland.
They report that the 22-year-old is ‘close’ to a call-up to the England senior side and has been approached by Scotland along with Toon trio Harvey Barnes, Tino Livramento and Elliot Anderson.
Gordon has represented England at all age groups below the senior side and helped our U21s win the European Championships over the summer. Despite Gareth Southgate leaving him out of the latest Three Lions squad, it’s believed England’s coaching staff are big fans and value his versatility.
All four are yet to be capped by England at senior level and have links to Scotland within their family, making them eligible for Steve Clarke’s side.
The Athletic state that Barnes, Anderson and Livramento are ‘still considering their international futures’, but Tino’s latest comments suggest he won’t rush into any decision and is enjoying life with England’s U21s:
“There’s no rush to make any decision. I’m really happy with where I am now. I’m really happy with the group I’m involved in, with the coach and everything.
“I’m just enjoying getting back to playing consistently and training consistently. I’m still young, still got a while to choose and I’m very happy with where I am now. I haven’t seen anything and I’m sure if it was something that was at the point of being very serious my agent would let me know. For me now, I’m very young and enjoying where I am.
“I have a lot of friends in the Under-21s and really do enjoy coming away with the team. We’ve a great manager who stayed in contact with me when I was injured to make sure that I was in a good place. I have a lot of respect and love for the England set-up because I’ve been through every age group here.”
