Chadi Riad was one of several young talents to leave FC Barcelona on loan during the summer transfer window, as the youngster signed for fellow La Liga club Real Betis.
The 20-year-old La Masia graduate had been impressing for Barça Atletic and had even made his senior debut under Xavi, but there was no immediate space for him in the setup, especially with Inigo Martinez arriving in the summer.
As such, it was decided that Riad will be loaned out to Betis, with the Verdiblancos even retaining a purchase option in the deal.
Real Betis already in talks over a permanent transfer
And, now MARCA is reporting that Real Betis have already initiated talks with Barcelona to make Chadi Riad’s transfer to the club a permanent one.
The 20-year-old Moroccan centre-back has had regular minutes this season for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, owing to Luiz Felipe’s sale and Marc Bartra’s injury.
And, Riad has made the most of his opportunities, forging a solid partnership at the heart of Los Beticos’ defence alongside German Pezzella.
Riad put in an impressive display against Betis’ local rivals Sevilla this past weekend and his performances overall have convinced the club to make his transfer permanent.

As mentioned earlier, Real Betis have an option to buy Riad from Barcelona with the clause set to turn into an obligation if a set of objectives are met.
But Los Verdiblancos do not wish to wait until that and are already negotiating with the Blaugrana to expedite the process, with reports suggesting that they might get it done as early as January.
Real Betis can secure 50% of Riad’s rights for a fee of around €3 million as per the terms agreed, with Barcelona retaining a buyback option worth €7 million valid for the next two summers.
As things stand, all signs point towards Riad’s move to Betis being made into a permanent one very soon.
