Barcelona will need at least €100 million to sign Portuguese duo permanently next summer

There was a lot of joy and fanfare at Barcelona when they pulled off the deadline day loan signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo.

The Portuguese duo had been keen on making the move to Catalonia all throughout the summer and bided their time, while rejecting more lucrative offers, to end up in Xavi’s squad.

And things kicked off in a brilliant fashion for the ‘Joaos’ as they soon became integral players for Barcelona.

Barcelona want permanent deals

Even though their forms have tapered down somewhat in recent weeks, Barcelona are intent on signing both Cancelo and Felix permanently next year.

The same was confirmed by sporting director Deco in an interview earlier this week, as he said:

“There is no doubt that we want to have them next season because they are valid for the squad. We are still in November, it is early. But of course, we are already thinking about it. We see how the season is going.”

Both Cancelo and Joao Felix are also understood to be keen on turning their loan stint at Barcelona into a permanent as well.

However, finances would make the task of signing both Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo on a permanent transfer difficult for Barça, reports Luis F Rojo of MARCA.

As per the update, Barcelona would require at least €100 million to make the transfers of Cancelo and Felix permanent in the summer of 2024.

Manchester City would seek no less than €30 million for Cancelo, considering that they paid €65 million to Juventus for him and that his contract runs until 2027.

As for Joao Felix, his contract at Atletico Madrid runs until 2029 and his transfer price is much higher, with the Rojiblancos asking for at least €70 million.

And, once their wages are also counted, the deal would be too big a financial burden for Barcelona for next summer. As such, signing both on permanent deals might…
