Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Sergino Dest

Sergino Dest’s growing role with Dutch side PSV has continued through the early weeks of the fall schedule and the American now heads into U.S. men’s national team duty off the back of his best overall week at club level this season.

Dest helped PSV to back-to-back victories, logging 169 combined minutes in wins over Lens and PEC Zwolle respectively. The Barcelona loanee earned SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week honors after registering one assist and delivering solid shifts defensively.

PSV’s 1-0 triumph midweek over Lens helped them remain in the fight for advancement in the UEFA Champions League. Dest started and played 90 minutes at left back, helping limit one of the top attacks from Ligue 1.

After excelling on the European level, Dest returned to Eredivisie play on Sunday and assisted on Malik Tillman’s goal in a 4-0 home triumph. He also won five of his seven duels and drew two fouls, helping PSV move to 12-0-0 in league play and seven points clear of second-place Feyenoord.

The 23-year-old Dest looks at home in Eindhoven and could very well earn himself a permanent move there if he continues to excel in Peter Bosz’s squad.

Joe Scally

Joe Scally is continuing to earn a starting role for Borussia Moenchengladbach and the Bundesliga side is reaping the rewards of Scally’s growing development.

Scally registered one assist in Gladbach’s 4-0 home league triumph over Wolfsburg, excelling on both ends of the field. The 20-year-old led all players with three tackles completed, while also completing 89% of his passes (60/69) and winning seven of his nine duels overall.

Gerardo Seoane’s squad heads into the international break unbeaten in their last four matches across all competitions.

Mark McKenzie
