Red Bulls parts ways with head coach Troy Lesesne

The New York Red Bulls have become the latest MLS franchise that will be seeking a new head coach this winter.

Troy Lesesne will not return as head coach after the club and him parted ways on Tuesday. Assistant coach Zach Prince was also relieved of his duties, the club announced.

“The New York Red Bulls have opted not to renew the contract of Troy Lesesne,” Head of Sport Jochen Schneider said. “We would like to thank Troy for his professionalism while navigating the team through challenging times and we know he has a bright future ahead.

“The selection process for the next head coach of the New York Red Bulls is actively underway.”

Lesesne served as an assistant coach since January 2022 before being promoted to interim head coach in May 2023. He registered a 14-8-10 record across all competitions with the Red Bulls, leading them to the first round of the MLS Cup Playoffs.

New York suffered elimination at the hands of FC Cincinnati over two matches.

Lesesne previously served as head coach of USL side New Mexico United from August 2018 – November 2021. He was also an assistant coach with the Charleston Battery and Charlotte Independence.

In addition, the Red Bulls parted ways with sporting director Denis Hamlett. Hamlett spent seven seasons as sporting director, helping the Red Bulls to seven-consecutive playoff appearances and two Supporters’ Shields.

“My family and I would like to thank the Red Bulls organization and the fans for the nine years I have been with the club,” said Hamlett. “I am proud of the fact that the team made the playoffs every year during my tenure. I wish the organization, the fans, and the players all the best going forward.”
