Nico Williams is a man in demand in Spain and outside, with his contract at Athletic Club expiring at the end of the current season.
Barcelona, for one, have taken a keen interest in his situation and are interested in signing the 21-year-old, as long as he is available for free next summer.
But, recent reports had suggested that the Spanish international was close to penning a new contract with Athletic, which had put a dampener on the Blaugrana’s hopes of a move.
Nico’s agent says new contract not done yet
However, Barcelona have now been given renewed hope in their pursuit of Nico Williams as his agent, Felix Tainta, has insisted that the renewal with Athletic Club is not a done deal.
Indeed, Tainta spoke to Correo Vasco (h/t SPORT) regarding the winger’s future and insisted that there was still no definitive offer from Athletic Club and as such, nothing is set in stone yet, leaving the door open for a summer exit.
“There is no definitive offer from the club or the player, it would be the other way around, which is not the case either, it is the player who has to decide his future,” he said.
“The club knows what the player’s approach is, what he wants. There is no definitive offer and in a few months his contract will expire, so we must not forget that,” the young winger’s agent added.
“This is a negotiation and there is an approach to the future on both sides. They must listen to the player,” Tainta further stated, hinting that the door for an exit remains open unless Athletic meet Nico’s demands.
