Sky Sports’ Keith Downie has revealed that injuries and suspension have left Eddie Howe with just 16 senior players for tonight’s Champions League trip to Borussia Dortmund – and three of those are goalkeepers.
Dan Burn (back), Matt Targett (hamstring), Alexander Isak (groin), Jacob Murphy (dislocated shoulder), Elliot Anderson (back), Sven Botman (knee), Sandro Tonali (suspension) and Harvey Barnes (foot) are all absent through injury or suspension.
Elsewhere, Emil Krafth and Matt Ritchie, Mark Gillespie and Javier Manquillo (also out with a groin injury) were left out of Newcastle’s official 23-man Champions League squad announced in September, leaving all four ineligible.
As a result, U21 duo Ben Parkinson and Lucas De Bolle were spotted boarding the plane to Germany on Monday alongside Lewis Miley, with 20-year-old youngster Amadou Diallo also pictured training with the senior side just a few hours before the squad set off for Dortmund.
16 senior players in Newcastle’s squad: Pope, Dubravka, Karius – Livramento, Trippier, Lascelles, Schar, Dummett, Hall – Guimaraes, Joelinton, Willock, Longstaff – Almiron, Wilson, Gordon.
Newcastle have 16 senior players with them for match here in Dortmund tomorrow night, of which 3 are goalkeepers.
Going to be some youngsters on the bench as Eddie Howe is down to the bare bones.
I make that seven players injured, one suspended and three not registered #NUFC
