November 7 – Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly to commit $300 million to investing in Manchester United infrastructure as part of a deal to secure a 25% stake.
Sky says the British billionaire, a lifelong United fan, will pledge the investment alongside the acquisition of a shareholding likely to be worth more than £1.25 billion.
After months of negotiations with several potential buyers, including the Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad al-Thani who pulled out of the running, Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority stake has emerged as the Glazer family’s preferred option.
The deal is apparently expected to be announced within a fortnight.
Manager Erik Ten Hag is facing intense pressure to turn United’s season around, with a crucial Champions League game at FC Copenhagen tomorrow.
It still remains unclear whether Ratcliffe will ultimately seek overall control of the club. Reports in recent weeks have suggested that he will take immediate control of football matters alongside two of his Ineos Sports colleagues.
