There’s only so many options available to Eddie Howe tonight, with 12 senior players ruled out for one reason or another, but I believe it’s between two XIs.
Option 1: Pope – Livramento, Lascelles, Schar, Trippier – Longstaff, Bruno, Joelinton – Almiron, Wilson, Gordon.
Option 2: Pope – Livramento, Lascelles, Schar, Trippier – Longstaff, Bruno, Willock – Almiron, Gordon, Joelinton.
I’m certain on the back four, as injuries to Burn, Targett and Botman make this an easy decision for Howe, especially when we were so solid with the same full-back pairing in the second half against Arsenal.
Ahead of that, will it be Willock on the left of a midfield three, Joelinton the on the left wing and Gordon in a false nine, or Joelinton in midfield, Gordon down the left and Wilson up top?
If Willock starts tonight, I doubt he’ll be able to go again on Saturday; where Bruno is suspended for the trip to Bournemouth. However, he was such a huge threat in transition in our 3-0 away win at Man Utd, with Gordon also superb in that false nine role. I can’t help but feel ‘option 1’ causes Dortmund more problems on the break, but there’s also a valid argument to give Wilson his first Champions League start of the season, keep Joelinton in midfield and Gordon out wide.
Either way, I’m pretty certain we’ll see one of these two starting 11s tonight. Which one would you go with?
