Barcelona saw a number of players depart during the summer transfer window, with quite a few young talents leaving the club on loan deals.
One such player who made a temporary move away from Barça was Chadi Riad, with the La Masia defender signing for fellow La Liga club Real Betis.
As per the terms of the agreement, Los Verdiblancos have an option to sign Riad permanently for a fee of €3 million.
And, AS is now reporting that Betis are ready to activate the permanent purchase option for the Moroccan defender as early as the January transfer window.
Chadi Riad impressing at Betis
The 20-year-old Barcelona loanee is making a solid impression at Real Betis thus far, playing in eight matches across all competitions, clocking up over 600 minutes.
Riad has benefited from Luiz Felipe’s sale and Marc Bartra’s injury, which has allowed the youngster to establish himself in the side.
Of the eight matches that he has featured in, Real Betis have lost just once – the 5-0 defeat against his parent club Barça.
It appears that Riad has made enough of an impression on Betis, though, who have already contacted his entourage to inform them that they wish to activate the €3 million buy option in January.
This option was obligatory if Riad completed a series of objectives, but the satisfaction at Betis with the defender’s performance at a very complicated period has meant that they will not even wait until the end of the season to close the deal.
Barcelona have a buyback option
As part of the loan agreement between the two clubs, Barcelona also inserted a buyback option, which stands at €7 million, and would be valid for two seasons.
So, even if Real Betis trigger the buy option, it would not be like Barça have lost total control on the 20-year-old, who has made just one senior appearance under Xavi Hernandez.
