Barcelona likely to face Man United battle for World Cup-winning midfielder

A report from SPORT has emerged that Barcelona are likely to face strong competition for a certain Guido Rodriguez from Premier League side Manchester United.

The Real Betis midfielder continues to interest Barcelona and the team from Catalonia remains vigilant in their pursuit as he perfectly fits the profile of a pivot, a position the club aims to bolster in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Guido in demand

It must be noted that Guido, a World Cup winner with Argentina, has made a significant impact ever since joining Real Betis in January 2020.

Back then, Betis paid a measly €4 million for his services and over the years, his value has rocketed to a whopping €28 million, and this remarkable growth has not gone unnoticed, especially in the competitive Premier League.

Despite numerous proposals from English clubs in recent transfer windows, Guido has consistently turned them down.

However, given that his current deal expires at the end of the season, the situation might change as Premier League teams continue to knock on his doors.

Manchester United’s situation similar to Barcelona’s

Over the past few weeks, there have been significant developments concerning Manchester United’s squad. They have received concerning news about Casemiro’s hamstring injury, which is expected to sideline him until January 2024.

Despite having Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat available in the same position, manager Erik ten Hag has expressed a strong desire to bolster the team’s midfield.

As far as Betis are confirmed, they face the prospect of losing Guido for free next summer if a renewal agreement is not reached.

This may leave them with little choice but to accept the player’s demands and entertain offers for him in the upcoming January transfer window and this particular situation is likely to make life difficult…
