FC Barcelona made an outstanding effort to secure a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad last night, a result that helped them keep up with Real Madrid and Girona at the top of the table.
It was a difficult matchup for the Catalans, especially up against a very organised Sociedad side that offered very little freedom to the attackers.
Xavi’s message to players at half-time
After drawing goalless at half-time, it was obvious that Barcelona required more quality and effort in the second half.
A day after the game, journalist Javi Miguel revealed Xavi’s message to his players in the dressing room at half-time.
“If there is one of you who is tired, or does not see himself able to keep up with the pace of the opponent, raise his hand. I will not allow another minute of lack of strength and intensity against Sociedad,” Xavi told his players (h/t Diario AS).

Replying to Xavi, one of the unnamed Barcelona players even claimed that this was the club’s worst performance under the leadership of the Spaniard. “This is the worst half in the history of Xavi’s Barça,” he said.
A better second half
Needless to say, Xavi’s message to his players at half-time certainly reflected on Barcelona in the second half.
The Catalans looked more energetic in the second half and were able to keep up with Sociedad in the second line of the press.
Given the performance, it was perhaps unfair that Barça had to rely on a late goal from Ronald Araujo to secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
At least this is what one of the big-name players thought after the win. “If Real Madrid had been the winner today, they would have said that Real Madrid made an epic effort to win the match,” he said.
