Barcelona will begin contract extension talks with €70 million-rated defender in January

FC Barcelona were able to salvage a 1-0 victory against Real Sociedad due to a second wind saving face, but the visitors had one man to thank in particular, and that was none other than Ronald Araujo.

Renewal strategy underway

Now, according to SPORT, at the beginning of 2024, Barcelona will begin talks with Araujo to extend his contract, which expires in 2026.

Araujo renewed his terms in April 2022 until June 2026 with a clause of €1 billion. If the center-back fulfills what he has signed, he will remain a Culé until he is 27 years old.

However, aiming to extend his stay, Barcelona are keen to offer a new contract that will tie him down to the Catalan club for much longer.

He arrived from CA Boston River in 2019 and began his career with the reserves, where he played 44 games. In the 2020–21 season, after having already played some games with the first team, he joined the seniors permanently.

Since then, his performances have been impeccable in the heart of defense, and he continues to grow in importance.

Araujo’s worth to Barcelona

Araujo has been renowned for his leadership abilities, and his unmatched love for the crest renders him a vital asset to have. Despite suffering for large portions of the game against La Real, he still found a way to secure victory for his side.

The defensive brick outhouse proceeds to be one of the world’s most dominant center-backs, so retaining him will ensure Barcelona’s defense is in safe hands for many years to come.
