Barcelona not negotiating with La Liga rivals for 29-year-old midfield general – report

Journalist Gaston Edul has affirmed that there are no negotiations between Barcelona and Real Betis for Guido Rodriguez, adding that when he said ‘we are in talks’, he referred to Betis and not Barcelona.

It’s no secret that Barcelona are aiming to sign a midfielder either in January or in the summer transfer window.

For that, Rodriguez is said to be in consideration mostly because his ongoing deal with Betis expires at the end of the season.

It was earlier iterated that Barcelona are hoping to acquire his services in January itself on a cut price, and if this does not pan out, a free transfer would be considered towards the end of the season.

What’s the situation now?

The most recent update we have regarding this speculation is that Barcelona have ruled out the opportunity to sign the 29-year-old.

This is largely because the Bluagrana are leaning towards signing Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham Hotspur.

As for the Argentine, he recently admitted that he is in talks with Betis over an extension and the reason why the parties did not indulge in this earlier was because the market was too busy for Betis.

“We are in talks and as President Angel (Haro) said, the market was very busy,” explained the midfielder as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

“That also influences everyone’s heads and now we are with a little peace of mind, about what the president said, and in a few months, we will talk about our future.

“There is a very good relationship with me, with the people of the club and with my representatives. And they are going to be good things for everyone,” he explained.

The 29-year-old added that he is on good terms with Betis and he is very thankful to the team for whatever they have done for him.

“We are in talks, I am happy here. We are on good terms, always on my side and on the club’s side. I thank them and I think they are grateful…
