Moments before Newcastle’s 8-0 win at Sheffield United, Toon loanee Yankuba Minteh experienced a pretty surreal Sunday afternoon over in the Netherlands.
After helping Gamba qualify for AFCON, scoring in back to back Eredivisie games for Feyenoord and starting in their UEFA Champions League win over Celtic in midweek, the 19-year-old was selected for their crunch clash with Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
He made an instant impact as the away side raced into a 3-0 lead, receiving praise for his movement, pace and work-rate, but the game had to be suspended on 55 minutes, as Ajax fans threw flares and fireworks onto the pitch before clashing with Feyenoord supporters and breaking their way into the stadium in protest.
Great to see Minteh’s loan spell at Feyenoord going so well – he’s starting regularly, scoring goals and experiencing some big games at such a young age – but concerning scenes both in and out of the stadium. See the footage below via Sky News:
