It is no secret that Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez wanted to rope in another creative midfielder during the summer transfer window despite bolstering the centre of the park with the additions of Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu.
The Financial Fair Play situation at the club meant that such a move could not be completed, but it appears that the manager still harbours hopes of adding another midfielder in the near future – be it in January or in the summer of 2024.
Bernardo Silva had been the club’s main target, but when it became clear that a move for him was not feasible, the attention shifted towards Giovani Lo Celso of Tottenham, although it did not lead to anything.
Lo Celso still an option on Barcelona’s agenda
Now, though, Javi Miguel of AS is reporting that Barcelona still have the name of Giovani Lo Celso as an option on their table.
The 27-year-old Argentine international, whose market value stands at €14 million, is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Prior to that, though, he had not featured much for Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou, as he was an unused substitute in their first two Premier League matches and played only 16 minutes in the third game.
It is unclear from the report as to whether Barça are weighing up a move for Lo Celso for the January transfer window or for the summer of 2024 when he will be entering the final year of his contract.

But, for now, the option of the Copa America winner remains on the agenda of the La Liga champions.

Xavi has a quality midfield unit at his disposal with the likes of Pedri, Gavi, Ilkay Gundogan, Frenkie de Jong, and Oriol Romeu.
Each player brings a different skillset to the table and have been key to the solid start to the season.
