September 19 – Just as they start their latest quest to land the elusive Champions League, Paris St. Germain are alleged to be under scrutiny yet again by UEFA – this time over their summer sales to Qatar.
PSG made €80 million this summer from the sales of Marco Verrati, Abdou Diallo and Julian Draxler (pictured) to clubs in Qatar, which reports in France claims UEFA are examining.
France’s top club was reportedly keen to clear the decks to balance the books and avoid any more Financial Fair Play breaches but UEFA is apparently looking to determine whether the “close relationships” between PSG and the buying clubs led to transfer fees being inflated.
PSG, owned by PSG Qatar Sports Investments and chaired by Nasser Al-Khelaïfi who also heads the European Clubs Association, are reported to have sought to play down any wrongdoing, insisting everything was entirely above board and legitimate.
UEFA, whose executive committee includes Al-Khelaïfi, have made no comment on the unconfirmed claims.
In 2022, PSG were fined €65 million by UEFA for FFP breaches although they only paid €10 million, with the remainder of the sanction only applicable if they fail to comply with the settlement reached over the next few years.
