Since arriving on the summer transfer deadline day, Joao Felix has played just two times for FC Barcelona thus far but already seems to be making an impression.
After a lively cameo on his debut against CA Osasuna, the 23-year-old scored his first goal for the club this past weekend against Real Betis on his first start, while some of his combination and link-up play with Alejandro Balde and Robert Lewandowski was enticing.
Erasing all doubts
It is no secret that Felix’s signing did not have a complete unanimous agreement among Barcelona’s technical staff.
In fact, it was reported on multiple occasions that manager Xavi Hernandez himself had some doubts about his acquisition, even though he has since denied such speculations.
Now, Adrian Sanchez is reporting that there were indeed some members in the staff who had doubts over Felix and how he would fit into the scheme of things at Barcelona.
But after seeing the 23-year-old Portuguese international in a few training sessions, all those doubts were completely erased and the people who were skeptical now believe he can be an important piece of the puzzle in this team.
Felix in a good moment
Felix has made a bright start to life at Barça, scoring his first goal for the club last weekend against Betis, building on his strike for Portugal during the international break.
Having hardly played over the past few months before this run, the former SL Benfica wonderkid will be eager to make the most of this promising start and continue to become a more vital player for the Blaugrana.
It must be noted that Barcelona do not have a purchase option for the 23-year-old, but if he does well in the season, there will be negotiations with Atletico Madrid over a permanent transfer.
