Barcelona will take no risks this season with injuries after losing several players to long-term injuries last season during crucial parts of the campaign. It saw them crash out of the Champions League group stages after having to field multiple makeshift backlines.
As such, Barça will treat Ronald Araujo with utmost care. The Uruguayan picked up an injury during the buildup to the game against Cadiz in training, and was expected to be out for four to five weeks, at the least.
No rush from Barcelona
Barcelona want to strictly adhere to the deadlines, and will not rush the 24-year-old, according to a report by AS. The player has been sidelined for a month at this point.
He has not been ruled out of the game against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League in midweek, but will most likely make his return on the weekend when Barcelona host Celta Vigo.
Araujo has missed games against Cadiz, Villarreal, Osasuna, and most recently, the Catalans’ 5-0 thrashing of Real Betis yesterday night. Barcelona have managed to keep two clean sheets across these four games.
Pedri still out
With Araujo returning from his injury, Pedri is the only player still out for Barcelona, and will likely miss a few more weeks. Ilkay Gundogan, Gavi, and Frenkie de Jong have picked up the pieces in his absence.
With injury concerns rising, Barcelona want to closely monitor the players’ off-the-pitch activities, especially with fingers being pointed towards the club’s medical staff.
While some players are not in favour of this, the Catalans are fed up recurring injuries to key players.
Xavi also spoke about Pedri and other players’ injury prevention plan, saying:
“All players have an injury prevention plan. We should not focus on Pedri. There are injuries in all teams due to the demanding schedule. It’s inevitable with stress and fatigue.”
