Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius has opened the door to a move to Italy, allowing him to be closer to his partner and child.
The German was initially signed as a backup last year with Martin Dubravka out on loan, but extended his stay beyond the initial six-month deal and is now under contract until next summer.
Despite signing a new deal, Karius admits a move away is a ‘possible solution’ that he will ‘consider’ to reunite him with his partner, who works for DAZN presenting Serie A games. That said, he insists a ‘good opportunity’ would have to present itself, suggesting he won’t move solely to be back with loves ones.
Here’s what the former Liverpool man had to say when asked if a move to Italy may be on the cards:
“It is a possible solution, which I consider. It could happen in the future.
“As a child I followed Inter, Milan and Juve matches on TV, but I don’t want to move only based on Aria (daughter) and Diletta (partner). I’m waiting for a good job opportunity.
“Most of the time we (Karius, his partner and his child) are distant, of course. We talk a lot on the phone, we make video calls with FaceTime. Diletta comes to visit me as soon as she can, but it’s not easy.
“Our plan is to be together for the rest of our lives.”
It wouldn’t be a huge loss to Newcastle, who already have Nick Pope, Martin Dubravka and Mark Gillespie, but you’d struggle to find a more experienced and competent second or third choice.
