The Telegraph have released a piece on Bruno Guimaraes slow start to the season, which features a few lines on his new contract, future plans and the interest he received since arriving.
The good news is he’s all set to sign a new deal, which will see him receive a pay-rise. A release clause is also mentioned, but that’s expected to be ‘well in excess of £100million’ to protect our lofty valuation.
On that, The Telegraph reveal that Chelsea and Liverpool were told he ‘wasn’t for sale at any price’ following recent enquiries. However, it’s believed the player is ‘keen to test himself in Spain’ at some stage of his career, opening the door to Real Madrid and Barcelona.
He’s clearly happy on Tyneside and had loved his time at Newcastle United so far, but future interest from either La Liga giant could test the player’s resolve in future windows to come.
It makes you wonder, is the likely release clause something Bruno has insisted on just in case Newcastle – who have previously refused to sell ‘at any price’ – receive a huge offer from Real or Barca?
That may be a conversation for another day, especially when he’s about to sign an extension. Hopefully he can put these off-field distractions aside and get back to his brilliant best; starting against Brentford tomorrow.
