Eddie Howe has been speaking to the press this morning, issuing updates on the injury front ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Brentford at St James’ Park.
There’s positive news is that Sven Botman is hoping to return after resuming training this week, but Sandro Tonali is a doubt after picking up a thigh problem on international duty.
That said, Howe insists Tonali’s issue is ‘nothing serious’, suggesting he’ll be back soon if he does miss tomorrow’s game on Tyneside. It also sounds like Elliot Anderson will be OK after withdrawing from the Scotland squad with a knock.
Botman was forced off with an ankle injury in our 2-1 defeat to Liverpool, seeing him miss our trip to the Amex almost two weeks ago, while Tonali withdrew from Italy’s EURO qualifier with Ukraine due to a muscle injury.
Here’s what Howe’s had to say on both players just moments ago:
“Sven Botman is possibly back. He’s trained this week. Fingers crossed. We’ll see how he feels today.”
“I think he (Tonali) felt his thigh in training (with Italy).
“He’s come back in and has had a scan. There’s a slight injury there – it’s nothing serious or too long. But we’ll wait and see whether he’s available this weekend.”
